Like those that grow on the estate, The Glenrothes 51 Year Old is the orchid of the collection. A rare and fragrant wonder that has bloomed in its own perfect timing; one that offers an unparalleled opportunity: to be utterly unique to its ‘keeper’. This is the oldest whisky ever released by The Glenrothes. The floral and fruit notes of whisky pay tribute to both the delicate nature of The Glenrothes spirit and the wild orchid from which it draws inspiration, while notes such as earl grey tea provide depth and showcase the aged qualities of this rare liquid. The result of this combination, like the unique characters of orchids, is light yet luxuriously aromatic.
Nose: Succlent watermelon, the perfumed scent of peach kernals and fresh almonds. Richly fragrant with notes of rose oil, bergamont and black tea leaves. Base notes of sandalwood with just a hint of fennel seeds.
Palate: Fruit, fragrance and luxurious sweetness. Ripe melon, rose water, earl grey tea and a hint of antique oak. Creamy sweetness lingers with a nutty quality – ripe, freshly peeled almonds.
Finish: Fragrant with a soft, velvetly sweetness.
The Glenrothes is a Speyside distillery, producing a range of Scottish single malt whiskies. It is located on the banks of the Rothes Burn (a tributary of the larger Spey) just west of Rothes town, some 50 miles (80km) east of Inverness in northern Scotland. The signature style is on the lighter, fruiter side. The hand grenade-shaped bottles are a very distinctive feature. Today, it is a substantial distillery, producing more than 5.5 million liters of spirit annually from its 10 stills. The distillery is owned by the Edrington Group, which also owns The Macallan and Highland Park. They bought it in 2018 from London wine merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd, who had previously sought out Edrington as partners to develop the business.
