Producer: Maximin Grnhaus

Ratings: F | 93

Vintage: 2021

Size: 750ml

ABV: 7.5%

Varietal: Riesling

    Country/Region: Germany, Mosel

Fruity-styled wine with a subtly backward nose made of fresh herbs, white peach, a dash of apricot, some fine spices, and smoke. The wine is beautifully focused and precise on the racy palate and leaves a great feel of fresh apricot, spices, and herbs in the long finish.

      Reviews:

      • Falstaff: Similar to the GGs, the Abtsberg Kabinett presents itself more in the light fruity range: apple with skin, a little yeast left, aniseed, only very subtle spice. Do not swallow too quickly in the mouth, the wine becomes more complex, fans out, formative acidity, long-lasting!

      Producer Information

Maximin Grnhaus is a German wine producer located in the Ruwer district of Mosel. It is best known for its famous monopole vineyard, the Maximin Grnhaus estate. Fifth-generation family member Dr. Carl von Schubert has managed the estate since 1981. The first documented evidence of the Maximin Grnhaus vineyards dates to 966, when the land was given to the Benedictine monastery of St. Maximin in Trier. Various winemaking artifacts from Roman times including pruning knives and amphora have been discovered here. The three sites that compose Maximin Grnhaus Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg have distinct micro-climates, gradients, soil compositions and classifications, from the smallest and lesser of the sites, Bruderberg, to the equivalent of a Grosse Lage, Abtsberg. Riesling makes up over 90 percent of the total vineyard plantings followed by Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois and Sptburgunder. The estate produces some 15,000 cases of wine annually, including Kabinett, Sptlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein from its three vineyards, as well as some Sptburgunder, Pinot Blanc and Sekt wines.
