      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2020 Figeac is the finest wine that has been bottled to date at this estate since its renaissance began a decade ago. Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and raspberries mingled with cigar wrapper, pencil shavings, licorice and black truffles, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a suave, harmonious profile, vibrant acids, and beautifully refined structuring tannins. This sapid, complex wine represents the essence of this great terroir. Two years after extensive soil studies of the estate were carried out, and the first growing season to see cover crops used in the vineyards year-round, the 2020 benefited from more coherently demarcated parcels and more precise levage, which taken together help to account for its edge over the excellent 2019.
      • James Suckling: Very subtle and classy aromas of blackberries, hazelnuts and chocolate with some wet bark. Its so subtle on the nose. Full-bodied, yet so fine and polished with an inner strength to this. Ultra-fine and polished tannins that run the length of the wine. This goes on for minutes. Classy.

      Producer Information

Chteau Figeac is a highly rated and well regarded wine estate in the Saint-milion appellation of Bordeaux, on the so-called right bank of the Dordogne river in the northeast of the region. Figeac’s eponymous flagship wine (or “grand vin” as is often called) is known for its rich nose, silky texture and elegance, and for its aging potential in better vintages. Figeac was rated as Premier Grand Cru Class (B) in the 1955 Saint-milion Classification a status it retained through every subsequent iteration of the classification until 2022, when it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Class (A). The wine is widely considered to have markedly improved since World War II under the ownership of Thierry Manoncourt, becoming one of the most sought-after Right Bank Bordeaux reds. There has been an estate on the site since Roman times, although viticulture only grew significantly following the middle ages. By the 18th Century the vineyard was much larger until sections were sold off in the 19th Century, including those that expanded Cheval Blanc in 1832. Numerous properties attest to this dispersal with a number of neighboring chteaux containing an appended “Figeac” to their titles, including the likes of Yon Figeac and La Tour du Pin Figeac.
