Producer Information

Located in the foothills of the Serra DOssa, only 22mi (35km) north of Evora, Herdade da Maroteira is a 330ac-estate which has belonged to the same Anglo-Portuguese family for over 5 generations since mid-19th century. Back then, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo cork oak forest to supply the Port Wine industry need in the north of Portugal.For around 150 years, besides cork, the estate produced mainly livestock and a bit of olives. In 2000, Philip Mollet, current owner and manager, revolutionised the farm strategy and decided to plant vineyard. The chosen Syrah grape variety turned out to be an outstanding success in the form of the internationally acclaimed Cem Reis wine. Later, a delightful selection of reds, whites and ross was the outcome of the Alicante Bouschet, Aragonz and Touriga Nacional plantation in an open valley.
