Producer Information

Hush Heath Estate is the home to Balfour Winery. A beautiful Tudor Estate in the heart of Kent, the Garden of England. The Estate comprises 400-acres of manicured vineyards, apple orchards, wildflower meadows and ancient oak woodland, rich in flora and fauna. Sustainability and conservation are of paramount importance and reflected in the practices used across the Estate. Each of Balfours 200-acres of vineyards has been carefully chosen and planted to compliment our winemaking philosophy. Located on either clay, chalk or greensand each vineyard is an expression of its unique terroir. Over half of our vineyards are located on Hush Heath Estate itself, planted on Wealden clay soils. These sites are used for many of our single-vineyard wines, including our flagship Balfour Brut Ros. We also manage vineyards in Kent, planted especially for us by our long term grower partners. These vineyards are planted on greensand, known for wines of poise and balance, and chalk showing wines with a lean, clean character. The care, attention and passion shown by our viticultural team enable our winemakers to produce the quality that Balfour is associated with. Located south-east of London, Kent is the warmest and driest county in England. With a variety of soils, including clay, chalk and Greensand, Kent is considered the perfect location for the production of sparkling wine and cool-climate still wines. Our Estate is maintained by the Turner family, who have been involved in the Estate from the beginning of our journey. They have an innate understanding of our soil and climate and a love for every vine planted. They take a hands-on approach in the vineyards, inspecting them daily, and being careful that each decision for the current vintage supports the best possible outcome for the following year.
