Beautiful bright and intense purple color with purple hues. The nose expresses candied, cherry and ripe fruit with grilled and elegant woody notes. The palate, supple and round on the attack, reveals a pretty fruity flesh with good tannins, round and tasty, which persist pleasantly in the finish.
Chteau Marjosse is a wine estate in the Entre-deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. Its signature wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Smillon and Muscadelle, but it also makes red wines from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. In keeping with the region, red wines produced at the estate carry the broader Bordeaux AOC title, although these wines equal the white wine in production volume. The chteau is owned by Pierre Lurton, who is also the managing director of the famous Bordeaux estates Chteau Cheval Blanc and Chteau d’Yquem. Lurton initially took over winemaking at Marjosse in 1990, when it covered 12 hectares (30 acres). Despite setbacks, including the frost-ravaged 1991 vintage, and other commitments (he was hired to make the wines at Yquem shortly after starting at Marjosse, he eventually bought the property from long-time owners, the Deleuze family, in 2013. Over the years, including in 2014 when he began upgrading the property, Lurton has spent the decades extensively renovating the vineyards, winery and the impressive stone manor house a former religious establishment. New vineyards were planted, old vineyards were replanted and the winemaking facilities were upgraded as part of his overhaul. The estate now covers 65 hectares (160 acres) of land, the majority of which is under vine. The red-wine grape vines are on average 25 years old, while the white-wine vines average over 35 years old. Total production exceeds 16,000 cases annually. Winemaking is overseen by Lurton and technical director, Jean-Marc Domme.
