      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Delormes 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee la Reine des Bois is up with the top eight to ten wines of the vintage. Made from 80% Grenache then smaller amounts of Mourvdre, Vaccarse, Syrah and Counoiseall from the famed la Crau lieu-ditit reveals an inky ruby color as well as sexy, youthful notes of barbecue smoke, black currants, licorice, toasted spice and graphite. Reminiscent of the estate’s terrific 2000 Cuvee de la Reine des Bois, this full-bodied, concentrated and layered beauty has plenty of tannin, terrific purity and a big finish.
      • James Suckling: Very juicy, but sleek and racy, with a big core of warm, crushed fig and plum fruit layered with mocha, black licorice, Turkish coffee and graphite. The long, dark finish is nicely packed for the vintage.

      Producer Information

Domaine de la Mordore is a French wine producer based in the in the southern Rhne Valley appellation of Tavel. The domaine is best known for its dry ros and red blends from Rhne varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. The first wines from the estate were produced in 1986 by brothers Christophe and Fabrice Delorme, who named the domaine after a local nickname for the woodcock. Soon after in 1989, a 3 hectare (7 acre) plot in Chteauneuf-du-Pape was acquired and today, is the source for the estate’s premier wine, Cuve de la Reine des Bois. This wine is only produced in exceptional vintages. The estate owns some 60 hectares (148 acres) of vineyard land spread throughout 38 plots in Tavel, Lirac, and Chteauneuf-du-Pape, as well as in the surrounding countryside. Here, large and rounded stones are found throughout the vineyards akin to much of the greater Ctes du Rhne. These stones prevent evapotranspiration and encourages sunlight penetration into the canopy. In the winery, Domaine de la Mordore employs both traditional and modern winemaking techniques. Grapes are destemmed as they arrive at the winery and fermented in both stainless steel tanks and small oak barrels. The wines are aged in new French oak and stainless steel vats before release.
