Domaine Bosquet des Papes is an estate in the Chteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhne Valley. It is particularly known for its portfolio of red and white Chteauneuf-du-Pape wines, but also produces a small selection of Ctes du Rhne wines. The domaine was founded by Maurice and Josette Boiron in 1965 although the Boiron family has a history of winemaking that dates back to 1860. Under the management of husband-and-wife team, Nicolas and Jeanne-Claire Boiron (who took over in 2006) the estate has grown to encompass 32 hectares (79 acres) of vineyards. The majority of these vineyards are devoted to the cultivation of red grape varieties destined for the domaine’s range of red Chteauneuf-du-Pape wines. It is Grenache that dominates here, closely followed by Syrah, Cinsaut and Mourvdre. Bosquet des Papes also sets aside a small proportion of its Chteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards for the cultivation of Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc, destined for Chteauneuf-du-Pape blanc. The estate also makes wines under the Ctes du Rhne title, in particular a red Bousquet des Boiron and a Cinsaut-dominant ros: Le Ros de Zaza. The soils found in the Chteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards are characteristically pebbly and sandy, while the 4ha (10 acres) of vines that make the Ctes du Rhne wine are cultivated in more earthy soils. Grapes are picked by hand and either vinified in thermoregulated concrete vats, in the case of the red wines, or in stainless steel tanks for the white and ros wines. Domaine Bosquet des Papes ages its red wines for 12-18 months in demi-muids and large oak barrels, while the white and ros wines will spend approximately six months maturing in stainless steel tanks.
