Mount Veeder Winery is a California wine producer located on Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley. It is known for its acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon wines and blends of Bordeaux grape varieties. The estate was purchased by Michael and Arlene Bernstein in the early 1960s with its inaugural vintage in 1973. The vineyards were the first on Mount Veeder. The vineyard was one of the first in the Napa Valley to be planted to all five Bordeaux varieties and the first to plant Petit Verdot. (The other varieties are Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec.) The Bernsteins were also driving forces behind the establishment of the Mount Veeder AVA in 1993. The estate consists of three vineyards on the Mayacamas Mountain range that are planted at altitudes from 1000-1600ft (305-490m) above sea level. These are Winery Ranch, North Ranch and Rosenquist. Due to climatic conditions at these altitudes, the growing season starts later than in the valley and stretches well into autumn. The grapes often have long hang times to fully develop.
